Part-time Jobs and Activities other than Status Qualification

Since International students come to Japan to engage in their studies and research here at Saitama University, it is not recommended to work, even part-time.
However, if it is judged that it does not interfere your study and research, you may apply for gPermission to engage in an activity other than that permitted by the status of residence previously grantedh and you may receive permission to work no more than 28 hours per week (8 hours a day or less during long vacation like summer vacation).
But in case of auditors it is 14 hours per week or less (8 hours a day or less during long vacation).
If you wish to engage in activities mentioned above, please apply to the Office of International Exchange.

Requirements

When you apply under the new system, you must meet the following requirements:

  • You must have "college student" resident status.
  • If you are an undergraduate student, you must have taken more than 20 credits in the previous academic year.
  • If you are a first year student, you are required to take 20 credits or more in the academic year.
  • If you cannot take 20 credits, the permission for the next year will not be given.

Necessary Documents

Passport, Alien registration card and Student ID card,
School transcript (Only undergraduate students)

Notes

  • It is prohibited for students to work in entertainment jobs or employment related to the entertainment industry.
  • When you engage in a part-time job, you must carry a copy of the "Permission to engage in activity other than that permitted by the status of residence previously granted certificate" with you.
  • If your place, type or hours of work change, notify the Center for International Exchange without delay.
  • If, in the case of doing a part-time job without permission, or violating the conditions of permission, you will be punished under the relevant laws. Be sure to observe the regulations carefully.
